What version of Informix are you running? We've found a bug in 7.30.UC7 where the optimizer gets confused by UPDATE STATISTICS HIGH and MEDIUM for various tables. Due to issues here, I continue to run update stats high and medium, and eliminate a table from the mix when I determine that there's a problem. Also looking for a fix for the bug in the 7.30 series as well.
