Re: Error building 'sysmaster' database.

I had the same problem when I tried to use oninit -i to install informix on
solaris 8, it is something to do with protocol TLI and SOC, I fixed this
with only shm setting in both onconfig and sqlhosts which is suggested here.
Then I add TLI protocol aftering creating sysmaster. This is addressed on
one technical article on informix Web. Can you show us the result of
oninit -iv.

From your oninit -iv, you still enable TLI protocol, could you retry with
only shm pls. in both sqlhost and onconfig.
Another alternative you can try is:
Run buildsmi under /Informix/etc as user Informix, check the relevant log
under /Informix/etc.
