port number in HDR replication

IDS 921UC4 I am setting up HDR replication on two Solaris box. I remember long time back at a client site Informix advised us to not use the same port number on both primary and secondary server. We were advised like that when we experienced intermittent dropping of replication on the secondary server. Is this really true? I find keeping different port number a huge headache from maintaining information at client side. All of our JDBC programs have port number hardcoded in the url string. Yeah I know it is a bad practice, but at this time not changing anything is our top priority. So the question is, does Informix really believe in keeping separate port numbers on each box. --
I've been running HDR on Solaris at 4 sites for several years using the same port number and never had any problems. I don't even recall ever reading anywhere that different port numbers should be used. -- Jeff jlar310 at yahoo rkusenet wrote: > IDS 921UC4 > > I am setting up HDR replication on two Solaris box. > > I remember long time back at a client site Informix advised us to not use > the same port number on both primary and secondary server.
