Move sysadmin database
Posted in 2015
On IDS 12.10.FC4 (Linux), Frank ran task("reset sysadmin","dbdw00") to move the sysadmin database; the build failed with SQL error -349 at line 29 of $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sysadmin/db_install.sql, leaving sysadmin gone. Suggestions: drop any leftover sysadmin and restart the instance; John Miller (IBM) said the CREATE DATABASE itself is failing, so check the dbspace name and free space; Ricardo Henriques posted a manual rebuild using db_uninstall/db_create/db_install/sch_*/start.sql via dbaccess, no restart needed. Frank replied space was adequate; no confirmed resolution is recorded.

Drop the database if it is there and restart the instance ?

In short the following scripts from $INFORMIXDIR/etc are run
to create the sysadmin database. I am guessing it is having a problem
with
the dbspace name provided as the create database is failing. The first
sql statement in the db=5Finstall script is failing with a database does not
exist
error. Please check the dbspace name and the free space in the dbspace.
sysadmin/db=5Finstall
sysadmin/sch=5Ftasks
sysadmin/sch=5Faus
sysadmin/sch=5Fsqlcap
sysadmin/sch=5Fiwa
sysadmin/sch=5Foat

No need to restart the instance.
It is possible to rebuild-it on the root dbspace without bouncing the
server by following the next steps.
cd $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sysadmin;
dbaccess - db_uninstall.sql;
dbaccess - db_create.sql;
dbaccess sysadmin db_install.sql;
dbaccess sysadmin sch_tasks.sql;
dbaccess sysadmin sch_aus.sql;
dbaccess sysadmin sch_sqlcap.sql;
dbaccess sysadmin start.sql;
If sysadmin has already been dropped then the db_uninstall.sql script will
return error, that can be ignored.

They'd never notice :)
And if it's a production server then oninit -i to make sure it is started in
interactive mode :)

Actually, if the dbspace doesnt exist the task will fail immediately with
Space does not exist..
The error shown on the online log is -349 Database not selected yet..
The only related situation I find is:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1IC89618
But it is for an early version.
I was trying to get the same errorand I crashed.
Now Im the one whos going to do an oninit i but I prefer with the v
flag, and dont forget to change FULL_DISK_INIT for the maximum support of
IO ;)
