HI, I need to make my application talk to informix database. My application is desinged purely on C++ and on Unix. How do I make this talk to the database. And I have restrictions here 1. I want to use Informix native libraries and should able to work with all the versions(at least recent) of informix 2. I don't want to use third party libraries like rogue wave 3. Speed also a critirea. So, I don't want to use ODBC or its wrapper CLI for this Should I able to use ESQL/C for my app (C++) and get connected to the database????? Should I use objectInterface for C++? Does this works on top ODBC? Does it work with only particular version of DB?? Is there any other method to access using native libraries. I am glad to hear from someone soon so that I can start coding regards Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
Informix OIC++ was designed primarily to support complex and opaque UDT functionality on the client. It supports built-in and user-defined types and works with 7.x, 8.x and 9.x. However it is slower than ODBC or ESQL/C. Leopold <valiveti@my-deja.com> wrote in message news:7su0s2$o4e$1@nnrp1.deja.com... > HI, > I need to make my application talk to informix > database. You can indeed code in ESQL/C, or Informix CLI which is an ODBC interface compliant wrapper for the low level functions that ESQL/C uses, and declare the functions 'EXTERN "C"' linkage so they can be called from C++ classes and functions. Informix reports that CLI is very close to ESQL/C in speed since it is a native library, I use ESQL/C myself so I cannot corroborate that assessment. Art S.
