This sounds like a bug that we have been fighting with in 7.31.UC4. Tech
support told us that it was a timing issue, that a table created (for us, in
sysmaster database) during a checkpoint would hang the server (and this
includes temp tables required for such SQL features such as order by and
group by). The only solution was for us to upgrade to 7.31.UC5. This is a
known bug, and you should really not have that much trouble getting Tech
Support to recognize this.
