Re: Informix Universal Server

Here are a few points. I hope you will find them useful: - The market for the Universal server is not there yet. This market according to one report that I have seen will take off late 1998. So a lot of people do not need a Universal server with all the Object and datablade extensions now. - You are right a lot of customers will hold onto 7.2X release for the time being. - Those customers which have special needs and would like to do Object oriented work will use IUS now. I do not have any numbers but they do not seem to be in the majority now. I think the IUS product will become mainstream when you see the following happen: - complete merge of ODS and IUS feature sets into a single product. - Informix starting to run TPC benchmark on this "merged" IUS product. - Starting to see more IUS implementation successes with big strategic accounts. - Adoption of the IUS by third party developers particularly big application vendors such as SAP, PeopleSoft, Baan. I hope this info helps.
