out of memory during c4gl
Posted in 1997
On an HP-UX 10.20, running Informix 7.2? (either 7.20 or 7.21, can't remember and new security features make it way too difficult to login from home to double-check.) Anyway, on a very small 4GL program (1191 lines; we have some that are 24,000+ lines which don't get this error), we get the following: cc: error 7201 new_slc_block out of memory (7201) I cannot be sure (since our remote login ability is so poor!!!#^5&*#), but I believe it is very unlikely that this appears in our 4GL code. Furthermore, this is from a simple "c4gl <prog_name> -o <prog_name.4ge>" command, before any linking is done, and there are no other source modules compiled along with this The only other symptom I can tell you (at the moment) is that the c4gl command takes an inordinte amount of time before it fails....I mean like 15 minutes, whereas even our 24,000+ line program compiles in barely over a minute (Including the link-editor portion). BTW, I'm seriously considering begging mgmt to do away with all contractors, since the quality of their code (in general) is pitiful (not to mention they cost easily twice what they pay me). I'm sure some of you readers are contractors, but I am really wondering if they're worth a crap at all. They have no interest in the overall quality of a project...as far as I can tell, they're just there to bill hours and write some of the shittiest code I have ever seen. (There's even an ongoing joke about one which is that his QA tests are, if it compiles, it must be ok. [This is exaggerated, but probably not too far from the truth].) -- - Danny Wright danwright@bigfoot.com #include <stddisclaimers.h> * God is real, unless declared as an integer. * Why do programmers get Halloween and Christmas mixed up?
