Informix Net
Posted in 1994
Hi I am new to Informix so sorry to sound like a newbie. I am developing a MS Windows app which previously talked to dbase4 files on its own hard disk. It now has to talk to an Informix On-Line (v5.02) database running on an IBM RS6000 model 370. The way we think we are going to do this is: 1) communicate with MS ODBC to get a generic SQL interface. 2) use Q&E drivers get ODBC talking with Informix Net for Windows 3) use Informix Net to talk to some winsock tcp/ip 4) TCP/IP does its stuff and gets the Informix NET stuff to the RS6000 where it is collected by Informix Star demon on the RS6000 5) Informix Star on the RS6000 talks to On-Line v5.02 tadah! MS Windows app talks to an Informix database on an RS 6000! Now questions: Is Informix Star needed? or is it Informix Net for Unix as some old brochures tell me. Has anyone got this working with PC's which already use Novell's IPX? (Our "customer's" PCs only use IPX at present and they run TeemTalk terminals using Novix) Has anyone got this working purely over IPX using Novix (and possibly their Novix "redirectors") so that we don't have to put a real TCP/IP stack on the PC's ? Why are Informix(UK) so bad at explaining to me what we are supposed to buy? -- Alex McLintock best reply to alexmc@biccdc.co.uk it gets read more often.
