Either of these events could have led to a world wide product launch which incoropated a "world tour". This could have lead to some "neat" giveaways such as the back satin jacket, in the "Good old days" software companies gave out some nice gifts. I am not sure if anyone from 1989 is still around. I have passed the question around one or two of the guys that were with SmartWare to see if they have any more info

This was in Frankfurt/Main, Germany on a Sun Info Day type of event. Maybe search groups.google.com in the usenet mac centric newsgroups or simply use keywords 'mac' and 'wingz'. Uhm... I resemble that remark. Yes it was after the purchase there was a "new" release of the product 1989 and it was the marketing launch. I do have a Wingz bag (red), a coffee cup and a Wingz pin from the "good ol' days" ... ;-) > From: dryburghj@yahoo.com > Subject: Re: WingZ 1989 World Tour - any info? > Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2008 05:20:43 -0800 > To: informix-list@iiug.org > > On Jan 29, 10:45 am, Honey <unknownshop...@gmail.dot.com> wrote: > > Does anyone have any info or pointers or links or anything about a World > > Tour of WingZ in 1989? That was the year I joined Informix Support and it was my team that supported Smartware and WingZ (the Office Automation products as we used to call them). I don't know if you have any knowledge of WingZ but basically it was pretty much the first spreadsheet to use graphics and operate in a Windows environment - the true forebear to Excel back when all other spreadsheets were strictly character-based. Since PCs in those days had no concept of Windows (Windows 3.1 - the first SERIOUS PC-based Windows o/s was only starting to reach the market late in that year/early the next year), WingZ was mainly targeted at the tiny Mac market. The WingZ world tour was, I am sure, a marketing roadshow designed to launch the product across the three business regions of US, Europe and AsiaPac - a typical excuse dreamed up by Marketing so they could have a worldwide trip no doubt. Nothing changes! That jacket is a rarity though. few people even at Informix were ever involved with WingZ. Let the poster know they have a gem on their hands. Then there is this on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Informix_Wingz If you can email me a cpoy of the badges I can confirm if it is the WingZ product logo or not
