I understand that 'select count(*)' now returns decimal. However, I was told that this violate SQL standard. Is there any true to this ? Thanks, T. Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

I do not know if there is a standard return type for count(*) but certainly if that were 32 bit INTEGER there is no choice but to violate it since a fragmented Informix table can have trillions of rows and an XPS co-server table even more and INTEGER cannot hold such a count which is why IDS 7.xx returns DECIMAL.
