Dear Reader of Comp.Databases.Informix, This is highly unofficial, but we are considering modifying CONSTRUCT so that it uses LIKE instead of MATCHES (and single quote instead of double quote) in the output string. There are a couple of obvious problems, such as if you type "[A-Z][a-z]*", LIKE won't recognise the character classes, and what to do if the user is brutal enough to type "%*_?" as the search criterion. But, neglecting these problems, how many of "your" programs would be broken if the user typed "?WIDGET*" into a form field for table.column and CONSTRUCT returned: table.column like '_WIDGET%' Answers on an email postcard please, preferably saying "none". Please indicate how many programs would be broken out of how many in total, and what the likely impact would be if the change was made (minimal, nuisance, serious, impossible). Any comments indicating why your answer is not "none" would help considerably. Thanks for your help. Yours, Jonathan Leffler (johnl@informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h>
