--0-1713751417-1083765170=:48737 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Hi, I am using NetBackup5.0 to restore an Informix instance. NetBackup hangs. I have found that it is trying to backup salvage logs but it cannot. Does anyone know what in the NetBackup side or in the Informix side I should do to correct the issue. You need to to :
onbar -r -p (-w)
followed by onbar -r -l depending on where you want to restore to.
I'm guessing that your attempting what NetBackup calls an "alternate
client restore", and what Informix calls an "imported restore":
backing-up an instance on box #1 and restoring it to box #2. When
Informix starts a normal restore it first attempts to backup logical
logs that have not been backed-up before; This process is called a
"log salvage". If you are attempting to restore to the same instance,
a log salvage is a good thing; If you are attempting to restore to a
different instance (as with an alternate client restore) a log salvage
is not a good thing.
To avoid a log salvage separate the restore command into separate
physical and logical steps:
onbar -r -p
onbar -r -l
I wish that Informix had a "do not salvage logical logs" option
instead of making one run two commands, but I didn't write the code.
If my assumption is not correct, try setting BAR_DEBUG as in the
following technote:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/256662
For the NetBackup side, set VERBOSE=5 and make some log directories
(see page 66 of the Troublshooting Guide). Probably the best NetBackup
log for Informix backups is the "infxbsa" log.
Hope this information helps. Good luck.

"With this new set of errors, look up the error (in this example, error 138) in Chapter 11 of the "Informix Backup and Restore Guide, version 9.3" (or similar Informix references), or in technote 249915: http://library.veritas.com/docs/249915 " ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Pity the link does not lead anywhere!
