Upper problem

Hello,
I have got the follow error message when I used the Upper procedure.
Error message
SQL Error (-674): Routine (upper) can not be resolved
SQL statement
SELECT *
FROM SMED
WHERE UPPER(M_ARCHUSER) = 'PDV'
Could some one tell me how I have to solve this problem. The informix
error help gives me following hint:
"Routine routine_name not found.
You called a routine that does not exist in the database. If you invoke
the routine, but your application or another application drops the
routine before you execute the prepared statement, you receive this
error."
Hi!
UPPER exists in 4GL and forms, but not in SQL.
(or was it added in one of the latest releases).

you did not say which version of the engine you are using...
but if you have a version which supports udr ( user defined routines)
you can roll your own upper ( lower etc...) version,
and install the routine in your database procedures.
There is enough info in the 'how - to' documents online to allow
you to figure out how to do it, which i did do by reviewing
the examples for 'soundex' which is a good example for creating
a udr, and using the new datatypes for the procedures you will write.
