informix replication

Has anyone used Informix replication to replicate data between remote sites? Is it very difficult? Does it require other software for example with Sybase you need to use their Replication Server if you want to do hot standby replication. Any information on Informix's replication would be greatly appreciated. Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
Informix has two replication strageties. The first (HDR) provides mirror image replication. Basically the source instance is replicated onto the target instance. This provides High Availability with a rather low latency. Also it is fairly easy to setup. However it does have a few restrictions: 1) the source and target instance must be running on the same binary. 2) the target instance is not updatable. 3) the target instance must have the same file layout as the primary. Additionally we have Enterprise Replication (ER). While a bit more complicated to set up, it does provide the ability to subset the replicated data. Also, it does support update anywhere as well as allowing some tables to be primary/target. However, ER does have a greater latency than HDR so is not quite as good of a High Availability solution. HDR only supports One primary and One target instance. ER's configuration is open-ended. You can have hundreds of servers replicating amoungst themselves. bmccready@my-deja.com wrote: > Has anyone used Informix replication to replicate data between remote sites? > Is it very difficult? Oh yes -- neither of these solutions require additional software/hardwear. They are both included within the engine. Madison Pruet wrote: > Informix has two replication strageties.
