Errors in log file while creating shared memory
Posted in 2000
Topics: General Discussion
We brought Informix offline and when we tried to bring it online again, we
were getting following error repeatedly
13:54:07 Could not create single shared memory segment with resident andnon-resident par
titions. Proceeding to create 2 shared memory segments instead.
13:54:07 shmget: [ENOMEM][12]: key 52564801: out of shared memory, checksystem SHMALL
13:54:07 mt_shm_init: can't create resident segment
Then we restarted Unix and everything was fine. We had not changed any of
the Unix and Informix parameters.
I have seen this thing happen before also. What is the reason?
What is the meaning of this error :
Could not create single shared memory segment with resident and non-resident
partitions. Proceeding to create 2 shared memory segments instead.
Does it ever create one segment for resident and virtual portions?
We see this message everytime we bring Informix online.
HP UX 10.20, Informix 7.24 UC4
Thanks in advance

A kernel parameter to do with shared memory is too small. Or
you have too little physical memory in the machine.

Yes on HP it does. This is for performance reasons.
