Cathy, If you use smit at all to set up/change users you could be asking for trouble. I don't know for certain, but I think smit (like face with AT&T SysV) holds some of that information in a set of files outside of /etc. The problem with face was that the next time you used it your changes made by hand would disappear. I don't think things are quite that bad with smit (based on some experimentation last week), but there are some files in /etc/security that also need to be changed. I know limits is one. cd to /etc/security and grep for the username you changed on all the files and you should be able to find the other one (the name escapes me at the moment) and possibly some others. When making changes by hand I know a lot of admins like to cp the old passwd and group files to o.passwd and o.group (or filename.old) just in case before making changes. carlos == Maintainer of the procrastinator's FAQ.
