Thanks for the reply. The following is some more informtion on what I have running on my SCO UNIX Server: Informix 4.10 ------------------- Informix-SE Informix-4GL RDS Informix-4GL Interactive Debugger Informix-SQL From what I have received so for in response to my original question I get a sense that the sluggish performance of my system is related more to the code and tables (possibly indexes) than the system resources. Since it seems that a developer such as me does not need to be involved in writing 4gl code unless it is part of the tasks, I wonder if the 4gl coder needs more training. Again, wouldn't a developers mind be able to create efficient 4gl code better than a normal user? Would we not write code correctly compared to a non-experienced programmer. I have looked over the 4GL manuals and it looks very simple to learn. Does it create that much flexibility in writing 4GL code that a user could bog down a system. We do not have the Online package. Since this database engine is only for Accounting right now, would I even benefit from the Online package? If the company wants to send me to classes to learn Informix I want to make sure there is justification in doing so, because I clearly do not want to go just to debug the 4gl programmer's code. If I do go to classes, what do you recommend other than the SQL and 4GL courses. Regards, Chris Fryett Software Engineer cfryett@aol.com
