How to create multiple instances

Hi,
I have a HP-UX box and demo_on instance is running there. I wanted to create
an another instance "newone". So, i copied the demo_on instance's onconfig and
sqlhosts file and made the below changes.
1) onconfig.newone
DBSERVERNAME newone
SERVERNUM 2
2) sqlhosts.newone
newone ontlitcp baleno 9088
3) profile_settings_newone
INFORMIXSERVER=newone
INFORMIXDIR="/mnt/inst1/informix"
ONCONFIG=onconfig.newone
INFORMIXSQLHOSTS="/mnt/inst1/informix/etc/sqlhosts.newone"
PATH=${INFORMIXDIR}/bin:${PATH}
export INFORMIXSERVER INFORMIXDIR ONCONFIG INFORMIXSQLHOSTS PATH
Then i ran oninit command. but i could not see the second instance processes
in ps -ef as well as shared memory details also not there for 2nd instance
while running "ipcs" command..
Could you please tell me what is missing here.. How to run multiple instances
at the same time..???
Can we run multiple instances on the same port ??
Thanks
Saravanan
The combination of hostname/address and port name/number MUST be unique!
That's likely your problem.

Port number should be UNIQUE. That was the problem. Thanks., Saravanan
Hi
The steps bellow are ok ... but, you should think about SQLHOSTS file ....
mention new instance.
New service is necessary in /etc/services file
Did you create a new CHUNK (the rootdbs first chunk is mentioned in onconfig
file) ...
Remember the Raw Device chunk pointed in onconfig file must be different name
of the old instance.
After that, run oninit -iy (but be sure you are pointing to new chunk and new
instance elseif , you'll loose all data in the 'old' instance.
Best regards.
