Hello All,
I had run into the problem
"4GL run-time error number -25588
"Cannot open file 'netsrv.iem'
and I had traced the postings related to this problem, which either attribute
it to a missing 'netsrv.iem' file or a networking problem.
I had discovered that on probable cause of this problem is that the host name
of a machine is defined with more than one ip address.
I had seen this twice and was able to correct it, by either restricting the
machine host name to one ip address, or using the ip address of the machine
in the sqlhosts file and the related entries.
The first time I had seen this problem, was a customer trying to connect users
from a remote site using TCP/IP over X.25 and the networking people had to
give the host name another ip address so that the remote users can access the
Machine. The solution was to use the IP address directly inside the SQLHOSTS
file.
The second case was a customer was connecting her IBM RISC machine to
IBM-Mainframe through SNA and had to give the same hostname a new IP address.
(I don't know why), but this was no lonnger needed, so we marked these entries
in the hosts file, and re-bounced the engine and everything went smooth and no
netserv.iem error again.
I hope this helps!
Regards,
Amgad Al-Sisi
