As far as hardware goes, multiprocessor machines won't give you much using the standard engine. I've benchmarked SE on various platforms, and a uniprocessor machine can kick ass over a 6-processor machine. This is because the SE engine is single threaded. By the way, I ran tests for up to 200 concurrent users, and nothing broke (well, this was on SE 5.0) On Mon, 20 Apr 1998 21:35:00 +1000, Andrew Coulton <coultona@ozemail.com.au> wrote: >Hi, > >the organisation i'm with are planning to switch from an application >running on oracle 7.x to an application on informix SE 6.x. we have up >to 400-500 users with maybe up to 80-100 concurrent users with maybe 2-3 >sessions (screens) each plus any concurrent (batch) programs running. >hware platform and unix flavour yet to be determined. > >how viable is this? is it good? bad? dont matter? if implemented what >gotchas will i have to watch for? any other advice? news ? > >many thanks > >andrew coulton
