RE: IDS to DB2 conversion

I am also a strong believer that Informix is the best engine around and liked the way you said it "One of the finest relational database servers." My only hope is that IBM is smart enough, if they plan to convert all Informix users to DB2, to at least implement Informix's components into DB2. Barbara A. It sounds as though your best efforts are getting caught up in a debate about a wider strategy. Of course it didn't help that Informix had a tools strategy which was over ten years out of date before IBM even looked at them. But I really can't begin to describe the depth of anticlimax when Janet Perna's eagerly anticipated strategy statement basically said that "no Informix users will be forced to migrate to DB2" and that was about all. You hunted for the rest of the strategy and there simply wasn't any. One of the finest relational database servers condemned to be a legacy product at a stroke. Even without all the customer satisfaction blunders that followed, all the best endeavours by the doubtless talented and motivated people like yourself were going to go in trying to heal this wound, or even just to stop it bleeding. Barbara, 1. My boss is from Informix 2. I spend a good deal of my time interacting with the Informix developers who transfer technology into DB2. This is real, day to day DB2 Development work, not just words on some Infobahn. Cheers Serge -- Serge Rielau DB2 SQL Compiler Development IBM Toronto Lab
