Error in getting Informix Online ( 9.14UC7)
Posted in 2000
Topics: Installation, Setup & Upgrades
I just installed Informix 9.14UC7 and set the recommended parameters
in /etc/system .
set enable_sm_wa=1
set shmsys:shminfo=268435456
set semsys:seminfo_semmap=64
set semsys:seminfo_semmni=4096
set semsys:seminfo_semmns=4096
set semsys:seminfo_semmnu=4096
set semsys:seminfo_semune=64
set semsys:seminfo_semmsl=100
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=100
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100
set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=100
I am getting the following error when I try to do a oninit-iy .
15:05:38 shmget: [ENOSPC][28]: key 53204865: out of shmid's, checksystem SHMMN
I
15:05:38 mt_shm_init: can't create resident segment
Could someone suggest what is to be done ?
Thanks

Before you buy.

Remove this line unless you are still using Solaris 2.4; it stands
for 'enable shared memory workaround' and was fixed in Solaris 2.5;
Solaris 2.6 and above complains about an unknown system parameter
when the machine is booted. And if you're using Solaris 2.4, you
should seriously consider upgrading...it isn't Y2K compliant.

Do you have 256 MB main memory that you can afford to allocate
to shared memory? If not, reduce this value.

Well, you could decide to edit /etc/system to increase the shmmni
parameter from 100 to some larger number. Or you could worry about
why you are using 100 separate shared memory segments and try to
reconfigure something. Do you have many 10's of users connecting
with shared memory connections?
You might also care to decrease shmmin to 28 or lower (I use 16);
that will get rid of the annoying boot-time message about (IIRC)
powerd failing to get shared memory. It only requests 28 bytes,
so when shmmin is 100, it fails because it is not requesting enough
shared memory!
Technically, the 'recommended' parameters are just the ones used
on the machine where the porting is (once was) done.
