Error when initializing
Posted in 2007
A user's IDS 10.00 server hung during startup, stuck in Fast Recovery showing "Blocked:CKPT". Respondents asked for onstat -m/-l output and suspected full logical logs. The message log confirmed it: "Logical Log Files are Full -- Backup is Needed" (plus an alarmprogram.sh failing with return code 126). Advice was to back up the logs or add more logs; since the user had no tape device, the suggested workaround was onmode -ky, set LTAPEDEV to /dev/null, and restart. No confirmation from the poster that it worked is recorded.

On IDS 10.00 when I trying to startup it remains eternally. In
another screen (onstat -) appears IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version
10.00.UC6TL -- Fast Recovery (CKPT REQ) -- Up 03:37:18 -- 685576
Kbytes Blocked:CKPT.
That I must do?

Post the output from onstat -m and onstat -l.

I suspect that you have your logical logs full and needing backup, or
something along those lines. Either add some more logs or do the
archive. If that isn't the problem, send the onstat outputs suggested
by The Spud (aka The Big Potato).

Yor are righ, onstat -m show:

Well, you could try setting LTAPEDEV to /dev/null, as you do not have a
backup you will be in no worse position throwing your log backups down
/dev/null.
And this is a fairly new instance (switching to Log 5 then log 6).
Run onmode -ky and then set LTAPEDEV to /dev/null and then try starting up.
Where did this instance come from (i.e. is this a fairly recent new
instance? or a "copy" from another machine?)

I believe this is likelt ot be a new ish instance to a newish user of
the software

Post the output from onstat -l, I suspect that your logical logs are full
and need to be archived.
