Because this message might be of general interest, I am also posting it to the net. As for whether 4GL is necessary: yes and no. `timer.c' is independent of the language in which its client is written. All it cares about is signals. `marktime.c' is written using the I4GL-to-C calling conventions. To be used as is, you need I4GL. However, by converting the function entry and exit code, you could convert this to a "vanilla" C routine. For your convenience in doing the above conversion, here are very brief highlights of the Informix C calling conventions: 1. Informix passes parameters to functions on the stack. a. The C parameter `nargs' is the number of parameters on the stack. b. `popint' pops one (integer) parameter off the stack. 2. Informix passes return values from functions on the stack. a. The C return value is the number of Informix return values on the stack. b. `retint' pushes one (integer) return value onto the stack.
