Roughly speaking, you don't. More accurately speaking, the only way to do it would be to turn logging off on the database by doing an archive and switching the logging mode, doing the load, and then doing another archive and switching logging back on again. All of which assumes the database is not a MODE ANSI database -- you can't change the logging status of a MODE ANSI database. You don't say whether you get an LTX (long transaction) or whether the logs fill; nor do you say whether the large ASCII file comes from tape or not. Nor do you say whether your database has logging. However, you should consider running continuous backups of your logical logs. Alternatively, you add extra logical logs for the duration of the load, and remove them later. But be careful about the requirements for restoring your database from archive tapes. Alternatively, you could use DBLOAD to split the load into sub-transactions automatically. It works with LOAD format files. Yours, Jonathan Leffler (johnl@informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h>
