Setting up informix on Fedora Core 4

I'm a complete newbie with Informix but I've been given the job of setting up a server which is to run under Fedora Core 4. Now, from the documentation I've been given I'm supposed to set it up with raw devices then start the rawdevices service. As you probably know this feature has been declared deprecated. From reading previous posts from this news group it seems that people have still successfully deployed this setup (eg: http://groups.google.com/group/comp.databases.informix/browse_thread/thread/112755aee33bb105/55327db083678e33?lnk=st&q=informix+fedora&rnum=4#55327db083678e33) but I can't seem to find any pointers on how to do this. I haven't yet tried to start the installation of the database server itself as I wanted to make sure that I'd done all the necessary preparations had been done. I've set up the db-volumes, made the user, installed the necessary packages etc. but I'm not sure where to go from here. Could someone give me any pointers, urls, explanations etc of what exactly I need to do with regards to the file systems and what I need to do in order to work around the raw device setup?
