Verifying/Restoring flawed Online v4 archives

Greetings. We are currently having problems restoring from Online V4.0 archives on SCO Unix v3.2.2. We have 3 level 0 archives which might be useful; 2 of them fail with error 5 (I/O error; really useful) while reading the tape; this leaves an unusable database. The other one finishes reading the 4th tape of 5 (judging by the rewinding noise) and then sits there forever, until you remove & re-insert a tape, whereupon it fails with error 0. This restore does create an apparently valid database, but we have no opportunity to restore the level 2 tape which follows the level 0. Questions: Can we somehow fool Online into letting us restore a level 2 tape without first doing a successful level 0 ? I repeat, the information from the level 0 has been restored (apparently), but it terminates badly. Is there any way of checking Online archive tapes ? Regardless of how (or if) this current problem is resolved, how can we check our archives if we suspect Online/our tape drive/something else of fouling up ?
