Re: onmode -F
Posted in 1997
We've been running onmode - F from a cron on a daily basis for a year.
The frequency with which a shared memory segment is freed varies.
We have gone as long as 23 days where none of the runs actually freed
a memory segment. At other times we have gone as many five consecuative days
where a memory segment is freed each day.
Our reason for doing this was seemingly unexplained engine crashes.
Informix tech support suggested it and we have had no more of that kind
of crash since then. This is 7.11.uc1 running on AIX 3.2.5.
A WORD OF CAUTION. Be certain you are aware of when the cron job runs.
On one occasion we unwittingly were in the midst of restarting the
engine in a replicating environment when the cron job kicked off and
it fouled up our process pretty badly.
Hope this helps.
