table being used by?

netters,
how do you determine who is using a given table? tbstat -t appears to
just give the number of users. tbstat -k only show is the table is
locked. tbstat -t doesnt give a user list. 'using' in this case
means reading/writing/deleting.
another question, when doing subselects, when are the tables used in
the subselect marked as 'not in use'?
for example:
select *
from some_table
where some_column in
(select another_column
from another_table
where some_condition)
leaves another_table 'in use', where as:
select another_column
from another_table
where some_condition
into temp t1;
select *
from some_table
where some_column in
(select * from t1)
leaves another_table not 'in use'. my understanding was that the
subselect executed (into a system temp table) and then the other
select was executed. whats the deal?
