Client Server comunication

Hello I have Informix server 7.30 UC7 running on Linux suse 6.4 and client sdk 2.4 TC1-2 on Windows '98. When the client application connects to the server there are more than 50.000 packages between them Is it so much? (each packages have 2 bytes of data) Thank in advance Andrea
