It sounds like the Highland FLEXlm license manager we have for SPSS. All the commands begin lm*. Yes, our license manager occasionally fails and I have a daemon of my own to check that it is still running and restart it if it isn't. (A daemon-watcher daemon!) The following is a copy of the code that starts and stops the license manager on my system at bootup: --- cut here --- # lmgrd startup, copied from Installation Instructions page 13 # /etc/rc2.d/S96lmgrd is linked to this LIC_DIR=/usr/SPSS/licenses LIC_BIN=/usr/SPSS/bin if [ ! -f $LIC_BIN/lmgrd -o ! -d $LIC_DIR -o ! -f $LIC_DIR/license.dat ] then echo "lmgrd startup: cannot start" exit fi case "$1" in 'start') # start the license manager $LIC_BIN/lmgrd -c $LIC_DIR/license.dat >> $LIC_DIR/license.log 2>&1 & ;; 'stop') # stop the license manager $LIC_BIN/lmdown -c $LIC_DIR/license.dat -q >> $LIC_DIR/license.log 2>&1 ;; esac --- cut here --- Hope it's useful until you upgrade. -- Peter Lancashire Information Systems Specialist, Bayer plc Eastern Way, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP32 7AH, UK Tel: +44-1635-562258, Fax: +44-1635-562281 --- If all else fails, read the instructions AND the release notes.
