Informix System constraints
Posted in 1992
We're currently developing software using Informix 4GL and FourGen CASE tools on a 486 box running SCO Unix 3.2.2. Our application has become rather large (several thousand lines of 4GL code) and we've encountered a problem that's got me stumped. 1) Informix error -4518: The 4GL program connot allocate any more space for temporary string storage. This problem occurs after several passes through the program. I am not using temporary string storage at the statement in which the error occured, and I can't locate any temporary strings being used elsewhere. Is this temporary string used by the system? Can I raise the 512 character limit, or manage the space myself? It looks like the storage area is being added to with each pass and never freed. Is it possible to free up the storage area after each pass? We had a similar problem with too many cursors being prepared (sqlcode=-257) and we got around it by freeing the cursors after each use. By the way, is it possible to increase the number of cursors that can be prepared? I've read the manual and it was no help. Maybe one of you gurus out there can help me get past this problem. Thanks if advance for any help. Patrice Badger E-Mail: patrice@mediatech.com Voice: (312) 828-9223 x293
