Checkpoint Required

Hey Online wizards What causes the check point required message on a "tbstat -"? I know one cause is when achive tapes needs to be changed(many thanks to Joe Lumbley's book), but what other things can cause the check point required message? A "tbmode -c" should force a checkpoint, but it has not been working lately.
