restoring to a different server

I'm running Informix 7.31 on an HP-UX server. We do nightly backups
using ontape and I just set up a Linux server running Informix 7.30 and
I want to restore the backup to this server. Both tape drives are the
same (HP Sure Store) and I have all the db spaces and chunks set up the
same. When I do an ontape -r I get the following error: "Physical
restore failed -function read archive backup fail code -1 errno 75" I
can tar files from one server and tar them back on to the new server,
but I can't do it using ontape. Anyone know what these error codes mean
or how I can accomplish this?
Thanks,
Paul

You cannot use ontape or onbar to migrate a server to a different version
or to a different platform. You will have to use dbexport/dbimport to move
the database to the Linux server from the HPUX server. If you cannot deal
with dbexport's insistence on locking the entire database to accomplish
this get my dbexport/dbimport replacement utility, myexport. Myexport uses
Jonathan Leffler's sqlcmd package and my dbschema replacement, myschema,
which is in the package utils2_ak. All three packages are available from
the IIUG Software Repository.
