ODS goes down with no messages

AIX 3.2.5
ODS 7.13 UC2
RS/6000 single cpu
@ morning we find that the engine is off-line.
OnLine log simply has last check point at about 17:30, then, next
message is the oninit we do @ morning to bring it back.
Called Informix tech support. Suggested we set afdebug and collect
statistics, and email log and onconfig.
Has anyone encountered this? If so what was the problem?
Has anyone got any problem solving approaches I can try.
Thanks

Good start. AFDEBUG will keep the engine up at all costs.

Yes, I see things like this happen
(SNI RM600 / RM400 with SINIX 5.43, INFORMIX IDS V7.30.UC3, many of them)
Reasons so far:
- disk is full where INFORMIX wants to write online.log
- diskarray lost
- no more processes (as we run periodic batch every some minutes during
nigth)
-> basically you should check what corresponds to our log3 or
/var/log/messages
or the output of the hardware monitor (SNI calls it /etc/.osd)
Anyway you will find out via smitty if you had a hardware or opeating system
related propblem if you have not shortened / dropped the log files
I am sorry that I can not help you with details on AIX
