Re: Informix ISell Value?
Posted in 2000
There is an I-Sell client here in Chicago that is having serious performance problems (the problems are bad enough that the client is considering ripping the whole thing out and starting anew with Oracle) with I-Sell. In talking with folks close to the project (I also was called by a headhunter to possibly work on the 'new' solution) I found out that the app server and db server are on the same machine (Sun E450, average load via `uptime` is a 12) and that the app server is using the vast majority of available resources (db server is relatively idle). In a word bad-resource-planning. Otherwise I have heard that it is a rock solid application (when it has enough room to run). We all know how well OnLine scales and uses resources, so I would err on the side of giving the app server all the resources you can from the beginning (and ensure that the servers are on different physical machines). If Intel systems cannot allow this, then give a look to UNIX. It could save your project (and ass) in the end.
