The database stays online and working. The table, however, is locked in exclusive mode, which may mean your app is not able to do what it would otherwise do. The long answer is TANSTAAFL. (There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.) You cannot currently have the engine reorganize an entire table, keep track of the changes to the table during the reorg, and apply those changes to the "new" table. A creative programmer might be able to do all that in the application, though.
