Data Archiving, moving historical data

need to move the historical data from a busiest table in production environment. Can anyone suggest a way to move the historical data to new table. I thought to write a procedure but there is lot of dependent tables and those are tightly related to each other and constraints enables. So can anyone suggest the best approch on how to move the old data to new table
