IDS 12.10.FC12
Solaris 10 1/13
I am working on a test platform, and, while importing a database, I'm getting
messages in the online.log suggesting an increase in the physical log size.
Here is an extract from the log:
[BEGIN LOG EXTRACT]
09/05/19 10:57:14 Performance Advisory: Based on the current workload, the
physical log might be too small to
accommodate the time it takes to flush the buffer pool.
09/05/19 10:57:14 Results: The server might block transactions during
checkpoints.
09/05/19 10:57:14 Action: If transactions are blocked during the checkpoint,
increase the size of the
physical log to at least 1556480 KB.
[END LOG EXTRACT]
So, IDS is suggesting the phys log be increased to roughly 1.5 GiB. Which
means it is currently less than 1.5 GiB.
Here are the top few lines from 'onstat -l':
[BEGIN 'onstat -l' EXTRACT]
IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 12.10.FC12 -- On-Line -- Up 21:43:45 --14942208 Kbytes
Physical Logging
Buffer bufused bufsize numpages numwrits pages/io
P-2 0 2048 7694382 6224 1236.24
phybegin physize phypos phyused %used
1:5313788 524288 493317 16 0.00
[END 'onstat -l' EXTRACT]
So, 'onstat -l' is reporting the phys log to be 524288 pages, which is 1 GiB
when page size = 2K. So far, that is consistent with the earlier online.log
message.
BUT, I edited the ONCONFIG file to increase the physical log to 4194304 KiB (4
GiB). This is shown by 'onstat -g cfg full':
[BEGIN 'onstat -g cfg full' EXTRACT]
id name type maxlen units rsvd tunable
18 PHYSFILE UINT4 12 KB *
min/max : 200,2147483647
default : 2793372
onconfig: 4194304
current : 4194304
[END 'onstat -g cfg full' EXTRACT]
Why does 'onstat -l' show a phys log size of 1 GiB, and 'onstat -g cfg full'
show 4 GiB?
I am misunderstanding something. Might anyone set me straight?
Thank you.

Disregard.
I confused the ONCONFIG parm with the actual phys log.
Forgot to actually run onparams!
My total bad.
