Re: Running c4gl programs

Pete, Unless you can get the version 6.0x DB-Access to communicate with the 7.1x OnLine system, showing that DB-Access works but I4GL does not only shows that 7.1x software is self-consistent. I think you will need to use a network connection to get the 6.0x I4GL to work with the 7.1x OnLine. Using network connections, you can get amazing but totally unsupported combinations of software to work together (eg 7.1x DB-Access and 4.1x OnLine and I-Star). Using the shared memory connection requires the software to have a much more intimate knowledge of what is going on, and I don't think the 6.0x products can work correctly with the 7.1x (or later) products using shared memory connections. Obviously, with a network connection, you have to revise your sqlhosts entry, and you will need to ensure that you have the OnLine system configured to monitor network connection requests, etc. You may need to revise the service name parts of /etc/services (or NIS, ...) as well as the sqlhosts file. Basically, I think that the Informix support people were pointing you in the right direction. The connectivity via the network should work. FWIW: get the network connectivity working via DB-Access (create a new entry in sqlhosts for the new connectivity method and set INFORMIXSERVER appropriately). This should be relatively straight-forward. Then test the I4GL connectivity -- it should be trivial.
