How to hurt Informix (kind'a funny)
Posted in 1997
A couple days ago, we received a fax from a large German/European PC/Unix-HW-seller from Austria, concerning one of our joint customers (the place I work for develops Informix applications for mineral oil companies), stating that Informix would only support dates > 1.1.2000 from 7.20 on, and if our software (currently running on 4.1x/5.0x) would work with 7.20 ... While I'm used to ignorant idiots (both administrative and technical) at that place's Austrian locations, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry about such a statement (please note: the customer's machine was freshly installed with the newest OS&Informix-versions not one month ago, in order to be able to install and run the newest version of the bookkeeping-software ... the old version didn't allow for years >2000 and/or Euro currency ... not sure which ... anyway, no technical personal from Austria did the machine installation, they got someone from Germany ... probably to do it right :-) ). I called the guy in Austria, asking where the hell he got that kind of misinformation ... according to him, he got it more or less directly from Informix ... (which I do not believe ...) The whole deal once again proves to me what kind of high-paid people work at that place in Austria ... and I get goose-bumps thinking about what amount of damage they can do by stating such nonsense to people that have to rely on their "experience" and "knowledge" ... -gg
