Re: sql ERROR -309...BUG IN 7.31?

I guess in a twisted kind of way, it does make sense that I would need to order by company[1,25]...because this is actually what I am SELECTing. This is a worksaround, BTW. And another workaround is to just order by 1. I have reported it to Informix TS, and they have reproduced it on 7.31.UC2. They have NOT, however, indicated that it is a bug (yet). Case# is 884433. Just out of curiosity, why do I have to SELECT a column in order to ORDER by it??? Is this some sort of ANSIism?? Seems like the engine wouldn't give a care one way or the other.............. thanks allen Stephen Manga wrote: > > Allen, > > After more thought on your problem SQL, you may find that this is a fix in > 7.31. not a bug. > > Your select could be: > > select somecolumn[10, 20] > from sometable > order by somecolumn > > It would not be correct to order by somecolumn when it is not part of the > select statement (only columns 10 to 20 of somecolumn would be participants). > Therefore 7.31 is probably more correct to enforce you to order by either a > column number or by somecolumn[10, 20]. > > Regards and feel free to disagree, > > Stephen C Manga > Email: Stephen.Manga@dbgroup.co.nz > Stephen@quanta.co.nz
