Re: Sybase versus Informix

Gary D. Hansen@ECCI 10/15/99 10:02 AM There seems to be some confusion here about Sybase ct-lib/db-lib vs Sybase ESQL. Sybase ct-lib (used to be db-lib which is an older version and is still supported) is a set of commands that can be put in a C program to write a client application using ct-lib commands which are Sybase proprietary. Sybase ct-lib is also installed on each client running Sybase apps as a method to connect from the client to the server. Sybase does not require a user to login to the physical server like Informix does. You login to the Sybase Server. ESQL on the other hand allows you to write SQL commands in a COBOL or C program the syntax being: exec sql (SQL Statement) end_exec. I believe there are only 4 Sybase TSQL commands that can't be executed using ESQL. The syntax of ctlib is totally different from Informix, Oracle and Ingres's esqlc which needs translations(esql, proc, esqlc) to run. Do you refer to Sybase's esqlc as ctlib or else. Can I get more information? Rumy Driver wrote: > Qintao Zhao, > > Sybase supports ESQL/C and ESQL/COBOL. > > Qintao Zhao wrote: > > > > I am a programmer.
