I have a DB that runs in ANSI mode. When you do a dbimport -ansi your logical
logs will fill at a rapid rate. What I do before doing the dbimport is set my
logical log tape device to /dev/null and bounce Informix or set my logical log
tape device to /dev/null and run ontape -a every once in a while durring the
dbimport.

I don't think you will find many people with ANSI MODE experience (watch
them flood in NOW! :). They are just more trouble than they are worth.
It is possible that they use more log space, but I would check with
Informix regarding known problems.
Certainly loading with no logging and switching on after the load is the
preferred method.

You do not have to bounce the engine to enable the change in LTAPEDEV if
you make the change using onmonitor instead of just editing the ONCONFIG
file as onmonitor will change the in-shared-memory value of LTAPEDEV also.
