RE: IDS 11 HDR
Posted in 2008
Larry asked whether HDR replication can run between a 32-bit UNIX IDS server and a 64-bit one (since backups can't be restored across bit sizes) and whether there's a workaround. Alexey suggested simply installing the 32-bit IDS build on the 64-bit Solaris 10 box so both sides match; Art confirmed this, noting the correct 32-bit package would be 11.50.UC1 (UC2 then being newest). The trade-offs are the 32-bit memory limits and somewhat slower performance than the 64-bit engine. Larry accepted this as the answer.

I am assuming that HDR replication is not supported from a 32-bit UNIX server to a 64-bit server. Is that just because you cannot restore an archive from a 32-bit server to a 64-bit server? Is there a workaround that anyone has done in the past? Larry
One possible workaround is to run 32-bit IDS on both servers: 32-bit UNIX server and 64-bit UNIX server. BTW, what UNIX flavor are you using? -Alexey -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of LARRY SORENSEN I am assuming that HDR replication is not supported from a 32-bit UNIX server to a 64-bit server. I am running Solaris 10. So, I could just load IDS 11.5.FC1 32-bit on the 64-bit server and then everything is business as usual? Is the only downside to running 32-bit IDS on a 64-bit server is that we are back to the memory limitations of the 32-bit platform? Yes, but the 32bit version would be 11.50.UC1 (xU2 is the latest release BTW - out two or three weeks ago). The memory limitation and the 64bit release will also tend to perform noticeably (though not massively) faster.
