dbexport fails due to '/' in table name
Posted in 2003
Topics: Migration, Import/Export & Data Conversion
I am
currently running Informix Dynamic Server Version 7.31.FD2X9 on a
Sun/Sparc/Solaris 2.8 platform. I am trying to export a 'SAP' database to a
local directory. I have used the command 'dbexport <database> -X -c -ss -o
/export' successfully many times in the past. Recently some SAP objects have
been added to the database, including tables that start with the character '/'.
This causes the dbexport to halt when trying to write to an unload file such
as: '{ unload file name = /ssf/00100.unl number of rows = 0 }'. I have tried
setting different combinations at both startup and runtime the environment
varaible 'DELIMIDENT' but I still get the failure.
Does anyone have a clue as to how to get the dbexport utility to work with
table names such as these?
Thanks,
Bug (Feature Request) 153265 applies - DBIMPORT CANNOT IMPORT SOME
DATABASES SUCCESSFULLY EXPORTED WITH DBEXPORT. DBEXPORT CANNOT EXPORT SOME
DATABASES AT ALL.
There are other related bugs, but that's the one I'd recommend using.

I think Jonathon is being polite here.
Q what moron would create a table name with a slash in it.
A The same sort who create file names with spaces.
Please tell me Informix is not stupid enough to accept this ..

Hi, > Q what moron would create a table name with a slash in it. Read the origin-mail from Richard. Read the magic 3-letter-word. (Hint, hint: Such A Pain). Further questions? Walter
Colin,
I understand your point. Normally a logical person would not create
things that Informix does not understand.
However some of us are at the mercy of application providers such as
SAP.
In this case the person (I don't have the original mail) is trying to
export an SAP database.
My question/comments to the person who originally submitted this ....
1) sending mail to sapmix instead of /in addition to ids might get you a
better answer. sapmix is supported by the IIUG.
2) check OSS notes or open an OSS ticket. I suspect, like HPloader,
dbexport might not be supported by SAP. Our DB is too big to even try
it.
