RSS server is not active / Can not establish RSS -
Posted in 2015
User configured RSS (Replicated Server for Standby) on IDS 11.50.FC9 but couldn't establish RSS connection to backup server. Error message: "Can not establish RSS - not logging index pages". Suggested solution: set LOG_INDEX_BUILDS to '1' in secondary ONCONFIG file. User reported this was already set. Thread continues with Art asking clarification about secondary setup method but no final resolution recorded.

Hello all,
I followed and have completed all the steps for setting "back", an RSS
server with IDS 11.50.FC9 on AIX 6.1.
When I issue onmode -d RSS ol_live (Primary) on the backup server,
instance log shows :
"
13:04:09 DR: Secondary to Secondary
13:04:09 DR: new type = RSS
13:04:09 Can not establish RSS - not logging index pages
"
On the other hand, onstat -g rss verbose on primay server shows :
"
Local server type: Primary
Index page logging status: Enabled
Index page logging was enabled at: 2015/09/06 12:07:08
Number of RSS servers: 1
RSS Server information:
RSS Server control block: 0x0
RSS server name: ol_back
RSS server status: Defined
RSS connection status: Defined
"
So, RSS server ol_back is not active.
Can you please, tell me what could be wrong in this issue and help me
solve the problem ?
Thanks in advance !
Best regards,
H. MOUKOURI
In the ONCONFIG file on the secondary set LOG_INDEX_BUILDS to '1' and try
again.

Hi Art,
I also thought it could be the problem. LOG_INDEX_BUILDS was already set
to 1 and did not solve the issue.
Any other hints ?
Thanks in advance !

Just an odd but important question: Did you create the secondary from
restoring an archive from the primary or using ifxclone?

Hi Art,
I restored from an archive, but not the correct one. :-[
In fact, I was checking to see what went wrong with the procedure to find
that I did not use my last L0 archive taken after LOG_INDEX_BUILDS was
set on the primary server.
Sorry for that, and many thanks for your help !
Best regards,
H. MOUKOURI

Opps - you have to take the backup after index page logging has been turned on.
