Hi : I am trying to install Informix on Corel Linux 1.0. I use rpm to install the package and get the following messages : failed dependencies: /bin/sh is needed by ids-7.30.UC7-1 ld-linux.so.2 is needed by ids-7.30.UC7-1 libc.so.6 is needed by ids-7.30.UC7-1 libcrypt.so.1 is needed by ids-7.30.UC7-1 libdl.so.2 is needed by ids-7.30.UC7-1 libm.so.6 is needed by ids-7.30.UC7-1 /bin/sh is needed by ids-7.30.UC7-1 It seems like I should install /bin/sh , I know that. But how can I resolve the other problem ? Thanks a lot Ken

You're installing IDS 7.30.UC7, which is ported to kernel 2.2.x and glibc 2.1 (possibly glibc 2.1.1). IDS 7.30.UC7 works OK for me on RedHat 6.0, which has kernel 2.2.5 and glibc 2.1.1, anyway, and it has libc.so.6 and libm.so.6 and so on for all the libraries listed above. Does Corel 1.0 use glibc 2.1 or glibc 2.0? I've heard that it uses the glibc 2.0 library, but kernel 2.2.x (whereas RedHat 6.1 uses glibc 2.1). If that is correct, then the problem is probably that you need a product which works with the glibc 2.0 libraries, but the one you've got only works with the glibc 2.1 libraries. So, if I'm correct, your options are probably to install glibc 2.1 on your Corel machine, or to find an alternative version of IDS which was built with/for glibc 2.0. Overriding the failed dependencies is best done with --nodeps on the RPM command line. -- Yours, Jonathan Leffler (Jonathan.Leffler@Informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.95 -- http://www.perl.com/CPAN "Windows is NOT a virus: a virus is small and efficient."
You dont need to install /bin/sh.. you just need to create a symbolic link to /bin/bash. The other libraries can/could be got by searching rpmfind.net for the respective RPMs. Search Google for the particular library and it would point you the required rpm. Hope this helps...
