In response to Denise Krefting :
We currently have a HP 9000 K400 with 40G of drive. We have just
purchased another 80G for our warehouse. It is true that Informix does
not support autochangers, but we use one from HP - not sure of the model
number - it is a 6 tape x 120 meter. Informix does have some unsupported
c-code that will actually send the flip tape command to an autochanger
when ontape asks for a new tape. We had to do some modifications inhouse
to get it to work, but it does work. It is definitely not the solution
that we were seeking, considering the importance of backups. Sorry, but
I can't send the code, but I would consider contacting Informix for a
copy. They just e-mailed the code to us, and we had to actually compile
and make it work.
Also, consider On-Archive. There is ALOT more setup, but is really
designed for production environments.
Good Luck and Happy Backups!!
